Almost Thirty, pt. 5 – the final chapter

Studio_20150506_100929

My Almost Thirty feature is coming to a close because… holy crap… I’m almost thirty. Two more days to go.

I won’t have access to the Internet from May 6th-9th but you’ll have to wait until the end of this post to find out why.

Today’s Post: Travel. Travel. Travel.

I feel very blessed that I have had the ability to travel fairly extensively in my twenties. The opportunity to lounge on beaches in the Caribbean, explore areas of the west and east coast of North America, an epic backpacking tour of Europe and now a further worldwide adventure with my love.

I am the person I am today for a variety of reasons, but travel has been one of my main influences.

Travel has made me more aware of the world that surrounds us. It has allowed me to appreciate and have a better understanding of our past. I have experienced beauty that has taken my breath away, and have heard stories that have brought tears to my eyes. I have ate, drank, and laughed with friends, new and old – long into the evening. Some of which I remember, and others of which I barely recollect.

Every experience has left a mark on my being, and I am forever changed because of it.

I understand that travel is not for everyone. I understand that there are often barriers that one must overcome to make it possible. But travelling as soon as you can, in my opinion, the best time to travel. Your life will be much improved, so the sooner the better.

I have not seen it all, nor do I know if I will have the ability to, but what I do know is we should all strive to see as much of this beautiful planet as we can. The lessons one can learn when experiencing a new city or a foreign land are lessons that can alter not only our present state, but the trajectory of our future plans. The enrich the soul. Here’s a peek at my BFF and I travelling back in 2010:

That being said… I mentioned yesterday that I would be going dark over my birthday and that is because…. drum roll please…. we are headed to Morocco!

Andy has planned the most epic birthday for me, and I am ecstatic to say I will be celebrating my birthday under the stars of the Sahara desert. Yes, we’re going desert camping.

I am extremely excited to see Morocco and experience something far outside my realm of ordinary. I’ll be back to report in a few days with lots of photos.

“The world is a book and those who do not travel only read one page”

How has travel changed your life? Have you had a travel experience that has left an impressionable mark? And finally… how would you encourage others to travel?
